I thought I'd organize my tags a bit more, and now have split up my fanfic recs and my fan vid recs. Also, a couple of links if you're looking for quality fan vids:

The Video Elite award site: Has the winners of their monthly vid search (on this linked page) and under "Resources" you can find a pile of vid sites for almost every fandom.

An LJ community with good vid recs in many fandoms: [livejournal.com profile] vidder_weekly. Not much activity recently, but they've got great past posts with tons of recs.

Lastly, for my latest fandom obsession, a Stargate Atlantis vid, in case you haven’t seen it:
Stress (Rodney McKay) by Rache and Sandy ([livejournal.com profile] wickedwords and [livejournal.com profile] sherrold)
This is quite possibly the best McKay vid I've seen, and the song matches so well. *pokes* go download.

~**~**~**~**~**~

And for those of you who don't vid, some talk on the complication that is the latest chapter of Inevitable )

Oh god, you have no idea how hard it is to find an icon for this post. I need to change up my icons. Here, I'll use this one:

It's been a while since I've polled my audience. Consider yourself polled. It's heavily Anita Blake balanced, which is okay as I fangirl the AB.

Morena Baccarin (Inara from Firefly) is going to guest star on several episodes in season 10 of Stargate SG-1! *is dead from crossover glee*

Here's a link with more info, but beware of SPOILERS for SG-1.
mhalachai: (Default)
Although, while there is no fic tonight, there is a plot bunny if anyone wants it:

Crossover: Stargate SG-1 and Phantom of the Opera
Title: Phantom of the Stargate
Premise: Carter discovers that the crystals in the chevrons will react to sound, including high-pitched human voices. A new recruit, who is so junior that she has to clean the bedpans in the infirmary, is discovered to have a wonderful singing voice and can "dial" the gate. Lt. Mari Soo has a secret, however: At night on base, she hears a secret voice that teaches her how to sing.... the voice of an angel....

Okay, going back to work now, SRSLY.

in which RL explodes...

In the interests of me becoming employed before the money runs out, no fic today. Not sure about tomorrow. See you guys in a bit.
mhalachai: (Default)
I have lost my mind. How? Why? Three words:

Stargate
Anita Blake

You'll see in a bit, what disaster this has wrought upon the fertile earth.

stay tuned to inanity theatre.

First off: Tonks love! [livejournal.com profile] theregoesyamum has a great character profile up on Tonks: The Deconstruction of a Miss Nymphadora Tonks. In which Gun goes into the character, how Tonks is smart and blunt and fallible and real, and then the writer backs her shit up with evidence. Good times.

Second: You know, if you don't like what I'm doing in my stories, tell me. But give me evidence and specifics, not just "yeah, this licked, you hack." I'm willing to take criticism as much as anyone, but give me a hand and make it constructive, KTHNX.

PS No one actually said that my writing licks, or called me a hack. I'm paraphrasing.

[livejournal.com profile] houses_on_fire and [livejournal.com profile] laney_1974 have done this, now it's my turn!

State of the WIP Address

So, readers, I, your humble author, will address the state of my works in progress, in no real order.

Let's start with Inevitable )

Also, an ZOMG!!11!!eleventy-one!!! I found the Firefly DVDs at Best Buy! No waiting for them to come through the mail! Plus I got the Harry Potter 2-disc set. Oh, retail therapy.

Sorry for the link spam, but this is important:

NEW X-MEN TRAILER
mhalachai: (Default)
I'm having a day. This "1,000" word chapter of Magnolia is now 2,457 words and counting. I cannot be succinct! Also, I must finish this chapter before I'll let myself start on Inevitable 49. It's going to be a long weekend.

I watched X-Men I and II last night, and am back 100% into my X-Men fangirl mode. You've been warned. Must... not... read xmenIII spoilers...

Also, you should go here to see the craziest/cutest hedgehog ever.

Have we ever seen them in the same room? I ask you!

Go read [livejournal.com profile] barbed_whispers's wonderful analysis on "Harry the Voldemort Slayer"

Summary: Hokay so, I recently came to the shocking realization that Buffy the Vampire Slayer had seven seasons and Harry Potter will have seven books and these two fandoms have a ridiculous amount of overlapping fans, so clearly there must be some correlation between the show and the books. So, I decided to plot out exactly how the two are related in a season by season (book by book, whatever) examination, and then I predicted the future by looking at season 7 and what that means for book 7.

Is so good.
mhalachai: (Default)
So we've all seen, in Firefly fanfic, the pairing name for River/Jayne: Rayne.

Today I saw a story that was Zoe/Jayne, and the author had deemed it Zayne. So this means:

Mal/Jayne = Mayne (rather appropriate for two such manly men, neh?)
Simon/Jayne = Sayne (which it's NOT)
Inara/Jayne = Inayne (which it would have to be)

I've been working too hard.
mhalachai: (Default)
*eases cautiously back into the room* Hello? Is this thing on?

Anyway, hello! I'm back! Not with fic right now, as I'm at work and the boss tends to frown upon that, but I'm back in the game, as it were.

Thanks to everyone for participating in the polls I've been putting up. I find that no one loves ticky boxes quite like LJers. And to all of you lurkers who pop in to vote: Keep at it, it's good to see you :)

Now, fic I'm planning over the next little while (and in no real order):

+ A cute little Anita/Nathaniel Valentine's day fluff: House of Cards.
+ A slightly less-fluffy Anita/Micah Valentine's day ficlette: One Night.
+ Chapter 48 of Inevitable: When Exposition Attacks!
+ The next chapter of Candlelight, in which Buffy makes dumb decisions.
+ The next chapter of Switchback, which has been depressing the hell out of me for the last long while.

And there you go.

Dear world

There are no big fic updates planned for any of my stories until after Feb. 14, due to real-life pressures. Just so you know.
mhalachai: (Default)
So, this is the announcement of a mini-writing hiatus. A work thing I was expecting to come in next week is suddenly happening now, so I'll be focusing on that for a bit.

What this means
No fic updates in this time. I'll still be around and responding to comments, and I have a fic challenge thing that I've got 87% done and will probably go up tonight. But that's it.

Oh, life. How you complicate my hobbies.
mhalachai: (Default)
Time for a post that's light and fluffy!

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] theregoesyamum: the Ten ways you know you're reading a Mhalachai fic.

1. There is some weird Anita Blake crossover action going on.
2. Asher's jealous of Harry/Micah/Nathaniel/ducks/rocks
3. The story looks as if it's been hit with the comma stick.
4. If there's angst, it's balanced with a liberal helping of fluff. Except if that story is Candlelight. Or Switchback.
5. There are minor "inconsequential" details that will come back to kick you in the ass eight chapters later.
6. People move around. A lot.
7. It's OC-lite.
8. At least once, you say to yourself, "Huh. Didn't see that one coming."
9. The characters aren't stupid, just ignorant of what's going on around them.
10. The chapters are really, really long.
mhalachai: (Default)
What is the proper past tense for bringing forth a zombie from the grave? "Larry had risen three zombies" is wrong... but what? Summoned isn't what I want. Damn you, English language!
Staring at that while spell-checking, I realized that it's "had raised". I'm going to go hide now.

My New Years retroactive resolutions: (yes the ones for 2005)
1. Write lots!
2. Accept constructive criticism, and actually deal with the issues brought up as opposed to being all wounded prima donna.
3. Start running. Run a 10-kilometre race.
4. Make lots of new friends on LJ.
5. Expand my creative horizons and write in fandoms other than my core fandoms (HP, AB and BtVS). At least cross with them.
6. Have Indian food with at least one person I've met through LJ.
7. Single-handedly keep the nearby Starbucks location in business.
8. Plan and carry out several simultaneous epics (and if not finish them, then at least get solid headway)

My fic resolutions for next year:
1. Finish Inevitable
2. Finish Switchback
3. Finish Candlelight
4. Finish all the outstanding fics I said I'd write for people
5. Finish my claim for Anita at [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100
6. Consider starting a new epic
7. Write at least one HP fic that isn't a drabble, and will hopefully include Hagrid.
8. and whatever else comes my way.

Now, for all of you who are familiar with Twisting the Hellmouth: January is "Hug a Writer" month. Why not drop by TTH and leave a review for your favourite story? If you haven't got a TTH account, most people have an LJ or an email where you can go to leave some love. What better time to read some new fic? (If you're not sure where to look, I've found that going to my fave authors and looking at their recommendations leads me to great authors).

2005 fandom meme thing
ETA: I'll be closing this at noon tomorrow. Get your answers in soon :)
We're done! Come see the answers!

Guess my favourite/most facinating character in each fandom. The favorite does not necessarily translate to the characters I write most in that fandom. This is canon representation, too, not fanon.

Person who guesses the most gets a ficlette in the fandom of their choice, on the subject of their choice. Good luck!
